The oldest fabric used for embroidery in Pałuki is white homespun flax linen. The development of the textile industry in the second half of the 19th century gave rise to a wider access to various types of cotton fabrics – plain weave, batiste, percale and flannel. Tulle appeared at the end of the 19th century. All fabrics used in Pałuki for embroidery are basically white. An exception is a red petticoat and striped aprons, usually white and red, sometimes white and blue or white and pink, and white and green. The stripes on aprons are narrow. A sign of wealth was an embroidered tulle apron.
